Even in these uncertain times, the awesome talent at Just Won't Die Games Studio is expanding! We’re looking for a highly-skilled and driven Technical Artist to work on an exciting new and original IP for console and PC. 

You will be an integral member of the development team liaising between artists and programmers to understand the needs of both disciplines and help problem solve between departments. You will work closely with the Game Designers, Art Director, and Lead Programmer, advising on technical resources, researching new techniques, maintaining tools and pipelines, and preparing assets to run efficiently without visual degradation.

The ideal candidate would have good industry knowledge, game development experience, and a passion for games. Whilst the position is based at our studio in Cambridge, UK, for the moment (at least) the whole team is fully embracing working remotely.

Skills & Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaising between programming and design teams

  • Researching and developing technical tools for the project

  • Assisting in asset performance and validation

  • Solving complex technical issues during development

  • Developing and maintaining resources and pipelines

  • Ensuring final art runs to full visual resolution

  • Working within the limits of the game engine, curating file sizes, polygon counts, and loading speeds

  • Enforcing standards as outlined by heads of departments

  • Developing tools and software to execute the needs of the game

  • Writing custom software specific to the needs of the game

  • Developing performance of frame rate and memory

  • Resolving material errors and collision issues

  • Monitoring the performance of the game

  • Maintaining technical documentation

eSSENTIAL rEQUIREMENTS:

  • A strong portfolio or demo reel

  • Solid understanding of art and animation pipelines

  • Familiarity with game systems and the game development process 

  • Scripting skills and fluency in languages such as Mel/Python

  • Experience in physics simulations

  • Shader development experience

  • Creative mindset and ability to overcome technical challenges

  • Experience in digital art content creation - high and low-poly modeling, unwrapping, baking, texturing, level art, etc

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with differences between creative and technical teams

  • Willingness to adapt to an evolving environment

  • A passion for playing and making games

  • A highly positive and proactive work ethic

  • Shipped at least one AAA title as a Technical Artist

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organisational skills

BENEFICIAL SKILLS:

  • Experience working on an FPS

  • Familiarity with the capabilities and limitations of Unreal Engine

We’re a diverse group of veterans with decades of experience working at multiple award-winning studios on a vast range of titles on PC, console and mobile.
